Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Lord of the Fishes Pose) it’s a sitting spinal twist that provides many aids to our health, such as: increases the elasticity of the spine, tones the spinal nerves and improves the functioning of the spinal cord; stretches the muscles on one side of the torso whilst compressing the muscles on the other side; relieves back pain and stiffness; massages the abdominal organs and relieves constipation; relieves tension that may have built up in the back from forward and back bending asanas; releases tension in the arms, shoulders, upper back and neck; among many others. With all these benefits it is mandatory to have this asana in our yoga repertoire!

Then, Eli Aguilar takes you to another great hip opener: Double Pigeon, Square Pose, or Fire Log Pose. The translation of the name of this pose is not as important as its impact in our hip and knees health. This asana allows our hips to open up relieving anxiety, tension and stress.

Let’s get ready to start the 12th practice of our 21-Day Yoga for Beginners Program!

Thank you for watching, and stay tuned for more tips on fitness, yoga, and healthy lifestyle.

Eli has been passionate about healthy lifestyle since she was a teen, which led her to study Clinical Psychology and to certify as Pilates Instructor, Reiki Master, Yoga Instructor and Health Coach.

Combining all this knowledge, she started a different professional practice, encouraging people to find the balance in their life.

Due to her eager to learn more about the body and its functionality, she moved from Costa Rica –her homeland- to New York to deepen her studies in Pilates. Once in USA she reconnected with her own personal Yoga practice and decided to go to India not only to study Yoga but also to learn how to live a fulfilling life. Since then, she has been living in London, India, and Thailand, teaching how to use the asana practice as a vehicle to find inner peace.

Her style is a combination of Yin and Yang energies. On one hand, she practices and teaches Ashtanga Yoga and Vinyasa to strengthen the body and mind, using the effort of the physical body to focus on the breath and calming the mind. And on the other hand, she has become a follower of Yin Yoga; using the gentle flow to allow the body to work on a deeper level, not only physically but mentally and emotionally.
