In this Video, GuruNanda teaches you how yoga can help you manage and hopefully resolve lumbar or lower back pain.
75% of all physical pains are manifestations of stored emotions and have a psychological component to their being. My best friend who is a orthopedic surgeon often tells me that Yoga may put them out of business. The stronger the muscle around the vertebrae the lesser the pain.
So rather than resting in bed, start gentle yoga practice under the guidance of a registered yoga teacher. 8 out of 10 people who underwent surgery that I interviewed told me that the improvement after surgery was negligible.
Back pain could be due to muscle or ligament strain, bulging or ruptured disk- by which I mean if you pick up heavy weight and your muscles are not strong enough, then all the load goes to the vertebrae- causing a rupture in the disk.
Excess weight, inactivity, arthritis, osteoporosis, bad posture, scolosis, poor alignment of vertebrae and ribs could lead to back pain.
Beware doing any of the yogic moves aggressively during back pain could cause the pain to escalate. start with Gentle movements and enhance your practice slowly- all under supervision of a registered yoga teacher.
Yoga is a free gift from our ancestors, practice yoga and avoid extra spending on special pillows, mattresses or shoes.
If are you going for an elective surgery, I would recommend you try these yogic moves and give it 8 weeks of regular practice so that your vertebrae is aligned and your muscles around it are strengthened, while improving balance and flexibility.
Being over-weight can strain your back muscles. Trimming down can prevent back pain. To learn more, watch the video yoga for obesity in the link.
