Following an Indian traditional, my mother and her mother used a saree (a garment made from about 8 yards of fabric) to bind their bellys after giving birth.
I wanted to do the same after giving birth to my first child. I tried to figure out how to bind myself while on the phone with my mom (I was in the US, she was in India,) and ended with a sloppy mess. Thinking a ready made, store bought Velcro bind would work better, I rushed out an bought one only to find that it would bunch up and was not comfortable and I stopped using it within days.
With the birth of my second child, I discovered the bengkung belly bind. It is similar to a saree but can be bound without assistance from anyone.
I have a weak back and LOVE the support this bind gives me. Postpartum, it is said to help expel blood clots, excess fluid and air that builds up during your pregnancy. Some women even use it years after giving birth during their period.

I hope you will give this time tested tradition a try and benefit from it the way I have.
