Researchers at several major teaching hospitals and university’s along with the
American Thyroid Association have been working together creating new guidelines for better care and management of Thyroid disease in pregnant women. The disease is said to affect “nearly 300,000” expectant mothers in the U.S. every year.
Those number have made effect and safe treatment of the disease a huge priority for healthcare providers. According to UPI online the updated guidelines “include recommendations on the interpretation of thyroid function tests in pregnancy, optimal iodine nutrition, the impact of thyroid autoantibodies” and much more.
