I have compiled a list of questions pregnant students and ladies ask.
.) Is exercise okay in the first trimester? Yes.
.)Can I twist? Yes, think about twisting from the bra-line up with less emphasis on the mid-sections. No closed-off twists such as Parivrtta Trikonasana.
.) Is it going to hurt my baby to lay on my back? Your body is intuitive. If you feel nauseous while laying on your back, get up.
.) Can I lay on my tummy? Once you feel pressure stop but in very early pregnancy it is okay.
.) Can I backbend? Yes, stay away from upward-facing dog and bow. Camel variations and cow with little to no emphasis on the lower back are good backbends.
.) Should I avoid sun salutations? If you feel nauseous, yes but if not go for it.
.) How do I create space for my belly? Widen your feel in poses such as down dog, forward fold and warriors.
.) Should I avoid balancing poses? If you feel unsafe yes but if you like them go for it.
.) What about squats and pregnancy? There are lots of benefits of practicing squats but if overdone could tighten the pelvic floor too much.
.) Can I hold my breath? No. Holding your breath causes the release of adrenaline.
.) What if I don’t feel comfortable in a pose? Don’t do it. Listen to your body.
