There are a million different reasons to love Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara). Sun Salutations are a fun, traditional practice that builds health, is energizing, quickly builds heat, and gets you into the flow. But this fast-paced practice can be problematic for pregnant moms.
Should you skip the practice altogether during your pregnancy? I say no.
If you’re having a healthy pregnancy, you shouldn’t have to give up the yoga classes you love because there are too many belly-down poses like Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana) or Upward Facing Dog (Urdhva Mukha Svanasana). You should, however, know how to modify the practice so that it’s safe and healthy for pregnancy.
Not all yoga teachers are trained in prenatal yoga and it will be much safer if you (not to mention help with the flow of the class) if you know how to modify the practice for yourself!
In this video, I share 3 of my favorite ways to modify Sun Salutations for pregnancy for both fast-paced yoga classes and your home practice. So you can get your pregnancy flow on no matter where you are!
