I wrote music for a yoga teacher in town and frequently play live music for her class.

Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues and fascia. Connective tissues responds best to slow, steady stretching with the muscles relaxed. Yin postures are held for about 3-5 minutes. Yin is a wonderful balance to the typical yang (energetic) yoga practices. Embrace this opportunity to breathe, quiet the mind and relax into stillness. Receive the vibration of sound. Allow mindfulness to be your basic theme – remain present throughout your practice. Come to a comfortable edge in each posture and attend to the needs of the body. Once you have landed in your version of the shape, drop into stillness. Deepen the breathe and soften into the hold.

Best times to practice: when the muscles are cool, before an active class, morning or evening, traveling

Props to practice with: bolster, pillow, blanket, blocks, yoga mat
