Have you ever been in savasana at the end of yoga class and just when you feel yourself start to relax, your teacher calls time? Have you wondered what a longer, deeper period of relaxation would feel like? What it might do for your stress levels and your health in general? Well, I have two words for you: yoga nidra.
What Is Yoga Nidra?
This relaxation/meditation technique originated in India, but, like most modern yoga, has been modified and Westernized to suit the needs of contemporary students.
Though yoga nidra is translated as “yogic sleep,” this method is not really about getting in a good snooze. Guided by a teacher’s voice, you identify sensations throughout your body and focus on your breath, while remaining in a state of relaxed awareness so that you may release deeply held tensions, some of which you may not even be aware.
Yoga nidra gives you the chance to traverse the catacombs of the subconscious mind while remaining awake, allowing you to release and transcend the various limiting factors of your personality you were previously unaware of.
Yoga Nidra not only offers relief from stress but provides the practitioner with powerful tools for one’s spiritual development leading to personal awareness and realization.
Awareness is the ultimate key the practice of yoga nidra offers, so why not start reaping the power of this ancient practice while reaping the benefits of – awareness!
Enjoy these Yoga Nidra Practices….for wellness, recovery and sometimes just a time out! Enjoy Namaste!
