In this yoga swing instructional video, Leela Robinson shares a warmup practice focusing on standing poses. The sequence is designed to stretch and traction the core/torso/spine, arms/shoulders and pelvis/legs. Warming up on the ground enables you to become mindful of how your body feels, improving body sense (proprioceptive awareness) in the air.
Includes chair pose/utkatasana, core strengthening with body weight, goddess pose, crescent lunge + twist, kneeling shoulder traction, low lunge, step up, standing side splits, hip opener. Does not include inversions.
Recommendations:
*Establish intention to be safe and have fun. Cultivate courage to grow your yoga edge (expand comfort zone) and compassion for your experience.
*Make sure your swing is securely installed. Swing seat at hip height, swing handles shoulderwidth apart. 6 – 7 feet 360 degree clear span needed to do all poses.
*Position a yoga mat under your swing and have two foam yoga blocks available.
*Watch the video first, then practice along with your yoga swing.
*Breathe deep. Choose a breath count ratio that works for you. For example: 4 count inhale, pause, 4 or 5 count exhale, pause. 4-1-5-1. Use the 4 count exhale for more strengthening poses, use the 5 count exhale for relaxing poses.
*Modify at will, hold each posture as long as you like, and do as many reps as you want.
*The sequence moves quickly for demo purposes, pause it to practice at your own pace.
*Give yourself an oscillation massage in any posture by rhythmically rocking side to side. Any pose can become more therapeutic with rhythmic movement.
*Share what you learn with family and friends.
*Please leave questions, comments and a thumbs up if you like.
