Sitting for extended periods of time can cause the hip flexing muscles to shorten and tighten, causing pain in the lower back as the lower section of the spine it is pulled forward and down. Standing with poor posture can also cause this same pain or discomfort as the hip flexers over activate and the lower back weakens. This is a condition known as Lumber Lordosis.
