The Roll up is a classic Pilates exercise that is a very precise movement, addressing the upper and lower abdominal muscle strength, increasing mobility in the vertebral articulations of the spinal vertebrae, while also addressing Hip Flexor strength, and last but not least, also addressed proper spinal posture, shoulder alignment, and shoulder mobility, all while linking the breath with the movement.
Thoracic breath in Pilates, along with extending the arms up on the inhale and exhaling while lifting the vertebrae up off the mat is a wonderful way to address alignment, breathe, and increased articulation through movement, and strength.
This in essence, provides a strong core, a proper spinal posture, along with a mobile spine which will be less susceptible to future injury.
