Chandra Namaskar, or Moon Salutation, is the cooling sister sequence to Surya Namaskar, or Sun Salutation. In this video, Jocelyn leads you through an adaption of the Chandra Namaskar which is appropriate for all stages of pregnancy, or indeed anyone who is feeling depleted and in need of a gentle practice. It is intended to manifest the rejuvenating energy of the moon. This adaptation of the Chandra namaskar focuses on chest opening, grounding, and fluid pelvic motions.
Benefits:
– Eases falling asleep
– Improves ease of breathing
– Relieves stress
– Eases low back pain
– Helps tone and balance the pelvic floor muscles
– Relieves cramping in lower extremities
Chest openers, or upper body stretches, make taking a deep breathe a little easier and can feel great to anyone experiencing the shortness of breath that often accompanies pregnancy. They can also help release stored up emotions, making falling off to sleep easier. A combination of seated, kneeling, and gentle lunges help the body be grounded and connected to the earth, promoting a sense of calm and security. Fluid pelvic movements can relieve low back pain.
They also promote space and balance in the pelvic floor, giving the baby room to find an optimal position.
