The spine was meant to move in four planes of movement – forward, backward, lateral and twist. In our 40 min Yin Yoga practice today we work with poses that help mobilize the connective tissue in all 4 planes of movement using long holds, breath awareness and mindfulness. Keeping your spine healthy through all 4 planes can prevent pain and stiffness, release tension and reduce back pain – helping you move more easily throughout your day! Enjoy!

What is Yin Yoga? In Yin Yoga we hold poses passively to mobilize and strengthen the connective tissue, joints, ligaments and bones. Always connect with your body and breath and come into the pose slowly, to approximately 2/3 of your maximum depth (your appropriate edge), being mindfully aware of all the sensations. We hold these poses for 1-10 minutes and while this can be challenging at times, try to settle in, breath and commit to the stillness. Feel free to use whatever props you need to support yourself to release and fully experience the practice!
