WEEK 23 – Our prenatal yoga practice this week in pregnancy will feel good as we take the time to think about how we move and breathe might help us through labor and delivery. Specifically during this yoga practice, we’ll be in goddess squat a couple times. We will use loud, audible exhales to see if that helps with getting through the intensity of the physical pose.
We’ll warm up before we get into any intensity, as always. We do some side stretching to open and expand all around us, not just our front bodies. The we do some light stretching of our low back and legs before we get into squatting. Pregnancy yoga is unlike a regular practice because our bodies are changing and we need to focus on our babies as much as ourselves.
Lunges and crescent pose expand our hip flexors and wide legged chair pose works our low core and hip flexors for support to carry our babies. We get into a little bit of a yoga flow with more expanding side stretches in different way which open up our chest and ribs.
Don’t worry, after slowly working through some intense poses that are about the length of a contraction in labor, we come into some hip opener exercises and a restorative forward fold pose.
What part of this week did you enjoy? I know staying in goddess pose can be challenging, but did breathing out and letting your sound out help at all? Were you able to rest easier and surrender into your forward fold more after working so much in your standing poses?
I’m so curious to hear!
