Taking the stand we learned from Warrior II, today we practice Extended Side Angle. This asana stretches various parts of the body that usually do not get stretched in regular exercises, such as the inner thighs, ankles, knees and lateral side of the torso. This posture is a great way to strengthen your legs, knees, and ankles; and to stretch the hamstrings, adductors, lats and back muscles that stabilize the spine.
After, Eli will teach you to flow to Extended Triangle, another posture that connects more with your lower body and instill expansion, stability and strength in your legs, gluts, and lower back muscles; and it is particularly helpful to reduce back pain and sciatica.
With these two new poses, we close the phase of standing asanas. In tomorrow’s class, we will put all the postures together and practice them in a full yoga sequence. Stay tuned!
Thank you for watching, and stay tuned for more tips on fitness, yoga, and healthy lifestyle.
Eli has been passionate about healthy lifestyle since she was a teen, which led her to study Clinical Psychology and to certify as Pilates Instructor, Reiki Master, Yoga Instructor and Health Coach.
Combining all this knowledge, she started a different professional practice, encouraging people to find the balance in their life.
Due to her eager to learn more about the body and its functionality, she moved from Costa Rica –her homeland- to New York to deepen her studies in Pilates. Once in USA she reconnected with her own personal Yoga practice and decided to go to India not only to study Yoga but also to learn how to live a fulfilling life. Since then, she has been living in London, India, and Thailand, teaching how to use the asana practice as a vehicle to find inner peace.
Her style is a combination of Yin and Yang energies. On one hand, she practices and teaches Ashtanga Yoga and Vinyasa to strengthen the body and mind, using the effort of the physical body to focus on the breath and calming the mind. And on the other hand, she has become a follower of Yin Yoga; using the gentle flow to allow the body to work on a deeper level, not only physically but mentally and emotionally.
